Heart failure - high mortality rate
In a recent publication (published on July 23 in the journal Clinical Cardiology Research) Professor von Scheidt (Augsburg) shows results of data analysis from the German Heart Failure Registry.
Strikingly these patients (three quarters of them are men, on average 70 years old) have a relatively poor prognosis. Almost 17% died within one year after discharge from the hospital and more than half died or needed to be readmitted to the hospital (see chart). The authors explain that, among other reasons, patients with heart failure suffer from too many additional diseases.
